📚Keep the Book Club Going with a Paid Subscription📚
Get 25% off a year's subscription from now until the end of January.
Thank you for supporting Doorstopper. In only two weeks, we’ve grown to 636 subscribers and counting. I’m glad so many of you want to read more books by women.
What are we reading?
Already forgot our reading list for this year? (Me, too. I had to print it out.) Here are the selections:
January: Middlemarch by George Eliot (1872)
February: Jubilee by Margaret Walker (1967)
March: The Mandarins by Simone de Beauvoir (1954)
April: The House of Spirits by Isabel Allende (1982)
May: The Mysteries of Udolpho by Ann Radcliffe (1803)
June: Almanac of the Dead by Leslie Marmon Silko (1991)
July: Kristen Lavransdatter by Sigrid Undset (1920)
August: The Tale of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu (1008)
September: The Golden Notebook by Doris Lessing (1962)
October: In the Eye of the Sun by Ahdaf Soueif (1992)
November: Cecilia by Frances Burney (1782)
December: The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy (1997)
Why do we need paid subscribers?
As many of you know, I’m a freelance writer. What you might not know is how precarious an existence a freelance writer leads. I have to be trying to make money most of the time. Any time I don’t put toward work could be the difference between being able to pay my rent or not. Sound stressful? It can be!
That’s why I’m offering a paid subscription option for the book club. With your help, I can devote more time to making the book club better. How? The more time I have, the more I can devote to deeper research and writing on the books we read. I will also have more time to answer all of your questions and comments.
Becoming a paid subscriber is totally optional. With the subscription, you’ll get upgraded Substack features and one more post each week. What could be better than that? You’ll also get the knowledge that you’re helping keep the book club going for everyone. You’re keeping the lights on, and you’re making the club better.
If you can’t afford to become a paid subscriber, that’s okay! Neither can I! Spread the word about the book club instead. Every little bit counts.
Get 25% off with this limited-time offer!
To keep Doorstopper going as planned, I’ll need at least 300 paid subscriptions. That’s less than half of you. I think we can do it.
To make that even easier, I’m offering 25% off the subscription price until the end of January. Subscribe soon so you don’t miss that offer.
As always, thanks for reading with me.
P.S. Look at this! Drawing Links, another Substack blog, mentioned us. Middlemarch is in the air. Go look at them for more cute little illustrations.
